A Grinchy Christmas

One of my favorite Christmas activities is reading How the Grinch Stole Christmas with my class and creating a lapbook.  The kids are so familiar with the story that it’s easy to apply the comprehension skills we have been learning.

It’s Turkey Time! *FREEBIE*

Time sure has been flying by this year!  I can’t believe it’s almost Thanksgiving already.  Each year my teamies and I send home this awesome project.  The kids are told to disguise their turkeys so they won’t be eaten for Thanksgiving.  I’m always amazed at what the kids come up with. 

This is the pattern we give them.  The turkey is from Lita Lita.


Here are a few from this year.







We have the kids include speech bubbles with their turkeys.  It’s a short piece of writing, but it is great for discussing writing from 1st person point-of-view and persuasive techniques.

I Love the Grinch!

I love the Grinch. I really do. I mean, who doesn’t?  He’s green, fuzzy, and awfully cute.  I adore this little guy so much that I wear Grinch Tshirts to school.

This past week we made Grinch shrinky dink ornaments at school.  You can get more details on how I do this here.

I’ve even decorated my door Grinch style.  Please pardon the eyebrows, they still need some work!

I combined my love of foldables with my love of all things Grinchy and made a How the Grinch Stole Christmas lapbook.  My class will be spending next week reading this classic Dr. Seuss tale and reviewing a variety of reading skills.  If you’re interested in making Grinch lapbooks, you can get a free copy at my TpT store.

Turkeys, Turkeys Everywhere!

I can’t believe it’s almost Thanksgiving!  It seems like this school year is whizzing by. At the rate we’re going, it’ll be Valentine’s in a blink of an eye!
We’ve been busy with our turkey activities and I thought I would share a few with you.  I don’t usually decorate my door, but I had so much fun with the Halloween doors that I’ve now planned out my door decorations for the rest of the year.  I plan to go with a simple design each time.  If you missed our Halloween doors, you can check them out here.

Here’s my door. As you can see – it’s pretty simplistic.

Here’s Liz’s door. 

We added a hat to Brenda’s door so her little monster would be ready for turkey day.  I think we’re going to add a Santa hat next month.


One of our annual projects is to have our students disguise their turkeys so they can hide from the hunters.  We always have really cute creations.  Here are a couple of my favorites from this year.



We have AR celebration every Friday for those kiddos who have met their reading goals.  We give the kids 3 activities to choose from and then let them sign up for the activity they want to do.  Liz’s group made toilet paper turkeys and they turned out adorable!


I have 2 more days before my Thanksgiving break begins.  I think I might just make it!  Enjoy the rest of your week!
